Another familiar name will take the place of Northern Waters restaurant in Duluth's Mount Royal Shopping Center later this winter.

The owners of Two Harbors' Vanilla Bean Restaurant announced Friday that they'll be opening a restaurant in the space at 1608 Woodland Ave. on Feb. 1.

The Vanilla Bean Restaurant in Duluth is slated to be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week — for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with full liquor, beer and wine service. The Two Harbors location has been a popular North Shore stop for nearly 20 years, featuring omelets, Swedish pancakes, pasties, soups, sandwiches and burgers, among other menu items.

The new restaurant will take the place of Northern Waters, which announced last month that it would be closing at year's end so its owners can refocus their efforts on Northern Waters Smokehaus in Canal Park.

The Mount Royal location won't be Vanilla Bean's first foray into Duluth; there's also the Vanilla Bean Coffee House, which opened in 2016 in the Fitger's Brewery Complex. Vanilla Bean owner Jason Vincent also opened the Boat Club Restaurant & Bar in the Fitger's complex last year, in the space previously occupied by Midi Restaurant.

A hiring fair for the new restaurant will be held from 2-7 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Mount Royal location.
