PetSmart opens in Duluth
PetSmart has opened its doors, becoming the first of the chain's locations in the Northland.
The pet supply and service store moved into the former Kmart in the Village Mall at Maple Grove Road and Mall Drive. It officially opened Saturday.
Ongoing grand-opening activities include a scavenger hunt from noon to 4 p.m. April 1 and a small-animal adoption event April 8.
The store is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. Grooming is offered 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. Appointments can be made at petsmart.com.
Banfield Pet Hospital, which operates veterinary practices in PetSmart locations around the country, is not part of Duluth's store.
With the opening of PetSmart, major work on the mall's parking lot and a redo of the Savers facade, the Village Mall has transformed in recent months. And with discount grocer Aldi planning a location for the corner of that parking lot, it will continue to change.
In November, plans for the grocery store were passed by the city's planning commission, though no construction has begun on the site yet. Aldi representatives did not return a request for comment Monday afternoon.
