The seven bed coverings in this exhibit span the period from 1775 through 1919. Some were made in Duluth, but most were carried here in the trunks or suitcases of immigrants. The earliest piece was woven shortly before the onset of the Revolutionary War. The most recent piece is a quilt made by a frugal seamstress who recycled the fabric from discarded clothing. Each bedcovering reveals something about its creator; all exhibit the human impulse to create beauty.
